Easily pay your bills at the comfort of your home

Despite the ongoing COVID19 mandatory lockdown, financial obligations such as loans, utilities, and credit cards have to be paid. Though the government has promised to instruct business institutions to extend the grace period for all loans through the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act, I was ill at ease to skip the monthly payments.

As I was searching for an online payment option for my BPI credit card, I can't seem to find clear instructions on how to pay using BPI online or even their mobile app. No instructions available, not even on their website! I refuse to believe that there is no way to pay online, so I navigated through the mobile app to find the how-to. My persistence paid off!

So for those scratching their heads (like me) in incredulous wonder why there is no updated guide from BPI, here are the detailed instructions with images to guide you through. Enroll your credit cards or even other merchant billers immediately so you may easily pay bills through the BPI Mobile app or BPI online site.

Just so you know, here's how to enroll a credit card biller in BPI online or the mobile app:

  1. Go to their website at BPI Express Online
  2. Log-in to your account.
  3. Once on the home page, select "Other Services" at the left panel.
  4. On the options displayed at the middle page, select "MANAGE RECIPIENTS"
  5. Fill all the necessary info on box 1. 2 & 3. For the (1) "RECIPIENT" select "Billers". For the (2) "BILLER" select the utility you wish to enroll (in this case, I am enrolling my BPI credit card). It is an auto-fill box, you just need to input the first letter of the bill you wish to enroll. Whereas the (3) "REFERENCE NUMBER" is the tricky part here. You have to refer to your bill to get the reference number needed. And this reference number differs for each biller/merchant. For example, for BPI credit cards, the "reference Number' is your customer # (stated in your SOA or bill). Do NOT mistake it for your credit card number! To check for the required details on the reference number per biller, you may click the link at the bottom of the page (where I put an arrow) or you may view the reference here: List of Merchants Reference
  6. The next steps are fairly easy. You just have to confirm the information you provided and then proceed with an OTP sent to your mobile.
  7. That's it. The one-time enrollment is done! You may proceed to pay the enrolled bill straight away on the "Payments/Load" option.
Some thoughts: The interface of the BPI app is not so user-friendly as compared to other banks (BDO and Maybank mobile apps are really easy to use). Instructions on how to navigate around the app are not readily available, as upon searching for it I only got several 404 error pages from the BPI website. If like me you are searching for text instructions for bills enrollment in their app, I hope this short tutorial is clear and easy to follow.
