What to Expect at Your Child's Wellness Check Up at KPJ Ipoh Hospital

From Kuala Lumpur to Ipoh. Now my baby boy is sick after a week of sudden transfer. What to do.

I browsed through the net of possible good doctors here at Ipoh, Malaysia. KK Clinics and public hospital are quite good, sometimes even better than those in the private service, but the hindrance is the language. Bahasa Melayu is the language of those serving in public hospitals.

Oh and also the long queue. With these setbacks, private hospitals become our no-choice choice for our children's wellness check-up.

As I browsed through possible hospitals and Doctors (thank you, internet), I was able to single out Dr. David Manickam from KPJ Ipoh Specialist hospital. He was highly recommended (in the online world at least) so off we went to KPJ right away.

KPJ Ipoh Specialist Hospital

KPJ Ipoh Hospital is impressive... quite fancy even. Lobby looks like a hotel lounge. Jazz was playing on the background. Receptionists were very accommodating and helpful. So far so good. Until we reached the 2nd floor where the children's clinic is located. The queue was overwhelming!

We went there at 9:30 am for I was told the Dr usually comes between 9-10AM. I was the 20th patient already. Worse, the Dr is still not around yet. Maybe doing some rounds, I suppose. No word from her rather glum nurse. Okay, the long line must indicate Dr. David is really good, for the rest of the Paed also in the same clinic have no queue. Come 11:00AM, Dr. David finally arrived.

What was quite disappointing (on my part) is that for each patient, the good Dr allocated an average of 3 MIN only. That fast to diagnose each patient? Then our turn came... Tadaa! We finally met Dr. David. He speaks fast. No nonsense approach, but friendly. I am a seasoned mom so I narrated right away the problem without being asked. A few poke to baby here and there, then the diagnosis. No symptoms aside from the high fever, so baby needs to have a urine test. The check-up lasted for a mere 2 minutes. We waited in line for more than 2 hours. Oh well.

Maybe it's just me who gets disappointed for such a short check-up... Would you be, too?
